Handout #355: Thoughts for Champions: Think Positive!!

Thoughts for Champions:  Think Positive!!

What is positive thinking? . . . It is “tough-mindedness.” It is refusing to be defeated, making the most of whatever you have to deal with in life.

The world is made up to two kinds of people, the “tough-minded” and the “tender-minded.” The “tender-minded” are the ones who wilt under pressure, difficulties and defeats. They are the ones who whine and consequently fail. They think failure.

Tough-Minded individuals are people from all walks of life; the manual workers and the merchants, the mothers and the fathers, the teachers and coaches, the students and the athletes. Whether young or old, they are the possessors of a strong element of toughness. This toughness is the inner power to stand up to difficulty, to accomplish what seems to be the impossible. The “tough-minded” individual has confidence and a zest for life because he tends to throw himself into things for the challenge. He enjoys his successful endeavors and accepts his failures, letting them guide him into new successes.

Believe in yourself. Believe in life. Believe in people. Do these things and you will become a “tough-mined” individual. If you know your own abilities; if you are undaunted and invincible in spirit, you will draw the best from whatever comes your way in life. That is positive thinking and positive thinking gets positive results.

A Coach’s Prayer

I suppose I should ask for flashy backs whose hips are in constant swivel and whose speed and dash make people say “Boy, they run to beat the Devil.”

I ought to include a massive line with chassis like big Mack trucks, whose brute strength scares all opponents and drops them like sitting ducks.

I could ask for a team with precision, whose efforts would all honors take and also plead for a squad with brains who would never make a mistake.

But Lord, I am an understandable coach. The talent cannot be all mine, so if you give me the things I ask for, I’ll never complain or whine.

Just give me a bunch of eager boys with the spirit to fight and win, who will battle as soon as they take the field and most of all will never will never give in!
