Handout #322: The Great Thing in Life

The Great Thing in Life

The great thing in life is not is much where we stand now,

But rather,

In what direction are we headed.

***********************************************************

  • If somebody you got is trying to tell you how  to run your program, get rid of him or get out of there because it will drive you nuts.
  • Dear Father:  Our one great coach, help us to play this game with dedicated spirit and willing body.  With open and eager mind.  So that lessons learned as we compete today may better prepare us for life’s long way.
  • My God is first, my Team is second, and I am third.
  • Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change.  And when we are right, make us easy to live with.
  • What we are is God’s gift to you – What you make of yourself is your gift to God.
  • Team success is not one man or one thought.  It is a collection of men and thoughts . . . working together in harmony and to be able to give to the group and to understand you’re not there by yourself.
  • To be a Team, everyone needs to see the “other guy” working, just as hard as them, doing the same workout if not the same weight.
  • We have a different purpose for testing than what most people may believe.  We are not attempting to “catch” drug offenders; rather we want to give our kids a hand when dealing with peer pressure.  A reason to say “no”.

Handout #321: The Only Way to Win; Optimist vs. Pessimist . . .

The Only Way to Win . . .

Every successful man I have heard of has done the best he could with the conditions as he found them, and not waited until next year for better.

It takes a little courage and a little self-control and some grim determination, if you want to reach your goal.

It takes a deal of striving, and a firm and sternest chin,

No matter what the battle, if you really want to win.

There’s no easy path to glory, there’s no rosy road to life, however we may view it, is no simple parlor game; But its prizes call for fighting, for endurance and for grit; for a rugged disposition and a don’t know when to quit.

You must take a blow or give one, you must risk and you must lose, and expect that in the struggle, you will from the bruise.

But you mustn’t wince or falter; if a fight you begin;  Be a man and face the battle – That’s the only way to win.

Practice does NOT make perfect!!  Prefect Practice makes perfect.

Once you’ve won or lost, it’s behind you.  What lies ahead of you is all that matters.

WORDS are LEAVES – Deeds are fruit.

OPTIMIST – VS – PESSIMIST By William Arthur Ward

The optimist turns the impossible into possible – The pessimist turns the possible into the impossible.

The optimist pleasantly ponders how high his kite will fly – the pessimist woefully wonders how soon his kite will fall.

The optimist sees a green near every sand trap – the pessimist sees a sand trap near every green.

The optimist looks at the horizon and sees an opportunity – the pessimist peers into the distance and fears a problem.

To the optimist all doors have handles and hinges – to the pessimist all doors have locks and latches.

The optimist promotes progress, prosperity and plenty – the pessimist preaches limitations, liabilities and losses.

The optimist accentuates assets, abundance, and advantages – the pessimist majors in mistakes, misfortunes and misery.

The optimist goes out and finds the bell – the pessimist gives up and wrings his hands.

NOW – HOW DO YOU MEASURE UP?

**********************************************************

SUCCESS

It is impossible to get a toehold on success by acting like a heal.

A man attains in the measure that he aspires.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Practice does not make perfect!!!  Perfect practice does.

Quotes

No man is as important as the team.

The best way to forget your own problems is to help someone else solve theirs.

NEVER – NEVER – NEVER – GIVE UP. — W, Churchill

Handout #320: Getting People to Like You

Getting People to Like You

Still another important factor in getting people to like you is to practice building up the ego of the other person.  The ego, being the essence of our personalities, is sacred to us.  There is in every person a normal desire for a feeling of self-importance.  If I deflate your ego and therefore your self-importance, though you may laugh it off, I have deeply wounded you.  In fact, I have shown disrespect for you, and while you may exercise charity towards me, even so, unless you are finely developed spiritually, you are not going to like me very well.

On the other hand, if I elevate your self-respect and contribute to your feeling of personal worth, I am showing high esteem for your ego.  I have helped you to be your best self and therefore you appreciate what I have done.  You are grateful to me.  You like me for it.

Whomever you help to build up and become a better, stronger, finer person will give you his undying devotion.  Build up as many people as you can.  Do it because you like them and because you see possibilities in them.  Do this and you will never lack for friends.  You will always be well thought of.  Build people up and love them genuinely.  Do them good and their esteem and affection will flow back toward you.

Give strength to people and they will give affection back to you.

The way to happiness:

Keep your heart free from hate,

your mind from worry.

Live simply,

expect little,

give much.

Fill your life with love.

Scatter sunshine

forget self, think of others.

Do as you would be done by.

Try this for a week and you will be surprised.”

— Norman Vincent Peale
