QUESTION? Why do some athletes and teams outperform those of equal ability?

SIX CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCCESS

 1.  They are able to out do their previous levels of accomplishments.  (Practice and Competition).

 2.  They avoid the so-called comfort zone. They are dissatisfied with their present level of accomplishment.

 3.  They do what they do for the  A-R-T and L-O-V-E of itand are guided by compelling, “burning”, internal goals.

 4.  They solve problems rather than place blame.

 5.  They confidentidently take risk after laying out the worst consequences beforehand.

 6.  They have learned to rehearse coming actions and events mentally.

 *******************

“WINNING AND PERFORMANCE CAN BE

LEFT TO CHANCE BUT CONSISTENCY OF

EFFORT AND INCREASED LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE

REQUIRE A DESIGNED MENTAL APPROACH

TOWARD YOURSELF

AND YOUR SPORT”

 *******************

No athlete or team effort will be successful unless a total focus and commitment is made individually and collectively toward two elements:

(1)   POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDES and

(2)   APPROPRIATE PHYSICAL BEHAVIORS.

REACHING GOALS (SUCCEEDING) …

Winner vs. Loser

The Winter – is always part of the answer;

The Loser – is always part of the problem;

The Winner – always has a program;

The Loser – always has an excuse;

The Winner – says “Let me do it for you;”

The Loser – says “That’s not my job;”

The Winner – sees an answer for every problem;

The Loser – sees a problem for ever answer;

The Winner – sees a green near every sand trap;

The Loser – sees two or three sand traps near every green;

The Winner – says, “It may be difficult but it’s possible;”

The Loser – says, “It may be possible but it’s too difficult.”

Be A Winner!

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.

Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it – but all that had gone before.”

TEAMWORK IS …

TEAMWORK is giving with no thought of receiving.

It’s being sincere and in sincerity believing.

It’s some one to talk to and someone talking to you.

It’s telling and hearing what is true.

It’s refusing to believe that bad exists.

It’s knowing that when not around you are missed.

It’s trying to help any way you can if even it’s only to understand.

It’s a willingness to learn how to give more.

It’s getting it done without keeping score.

It’s trusting in faith each and every day.

It’s knowing you rate in a very special way.

MATURITY IS …

M-A-T-U-R-I-T-Y is …

The ability to base judgement on the big picture … the long haul.

The ability to stick with a project or situation until it is finished.

The ability to face unpleasantness, frustration, discomfort and defeat without complaint or collapse.

The ability to live up to your responsibilities and this means being dependable, keeping your word.  The world is filled with people who can’t be counted on.  People who never seem to come through in the clutches.  People who break promises.

The ability to make a decision and stand by it …

The ability to harness your abilities and energies.

Son, How Matured Are YOU?

CHARACTER IS …

  1. PRUDENCE – the ability to regulate and discipline one’s self through the exercise of reason.
  2. FORTITUDE – the endurance of physical or mental hardships or suffering without giving way under strain.  It is: firmness of mind in meeting danger or adversity; resolute endurance; courage and staying power.  It is the possession of the stamina essential to face that which repels or frightens one, or to put up with hardships of a job imposed. It requires triumph.  Synonyms are grit, backbone, pluck, and guts.
  3. TEMPERANCE – habitual moderation in the indulgence of appetites and passions.
  4. JUSTICE – the principle of rectitude and just dealing of men with each other; also conformity to it; integrity.
  5. FAITH – trust in God.
  6. HOPE – the desire with expectation of obtaining what is desired, or belief that it is attainable.
  7. CHARITY – the act of loving all men as brothers because they are the sons of God.  It stresses benevolence and goodwill in giving and in the broad understanding of others with kindly tolerance.

CHARACTER is made by what you stand for; REPUTATION by what you fall for.

KEYS TO THE ABUDANT LIFE .  .  .

IT IS Y-O-U – It is one man.. YOU! You’re the KEY to your success. Only You are willing to discipline, sacrifice and plan for your success.

Others will applaud … but only you will be the KEY!

HERE ARE THE OTHER KEYS:

SUCCESS REQUIRES DILIGENCE

The heights of great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.  – Longfellow

SUCCESS REQUIRES HIGH IDEALS

Whatever career you embrace, propose to yourself an elevated aim, and put in its service an unaltered constancy.   – Henry Ford

SUCCESS REQUIRES NOBLE, HONEST EFFORT

Take hold, my son, of the toughest knots in life and try to untie them; try to be worthy of man’s highest estate, have high, noble, manly honor. There is but one test of everything, and that is, is it right? If it is not right, turn away from it.     – Henry A. Wise

SUCCESS REQUIRES VISION

Lincoln Steffens’ tutor told him: “Go to it, boy.   The world is yours. Nothing is done, nothing is known. The greatest poem isn’t written, the best railroad, or ship, or plane isn’t built yet, the perfect state hasn’t been thought of. Everything remains to be done right, everything!

SUCCESS REQUIRES INITIATIVE

Before sitting down to wait for your ship to come in, be sure you have sent one out.    – Thomas Edison

GEORGE BERNARD SHAWI dread success. To have succeeded is to have finished one’s business on earth, like the male spider, who is killed by the female the moment he has succeeded in his courtship. I like a state of continued becoming, with a goal in front and not behind.

IF YOU HAVE A WHY, YOU CAN ENDURE THE WHAT.

JUST FOR TODAY

JUST FOR TODAY   I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle my whole life problems at once.  I can do something for 12 hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

JUST FOR TODAY   I will be happy.  This assumes to be what Abraham Lincoln said, that “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

JUST FOR TODAY   I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires.  I will take my “Luck” as it comes, and fit myself to it.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will try to strengthen my mind.  I will study.  I will learn something useful.  I will not be a mental loafer.  I will read something that requires effort, thought, and concentration.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count.  I will do at least two things I don’t want to do – just for the exercise.  I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt; but today I will not show it.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will be agreeable.  I will look as well as I can dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, not find fault with anything and not try to improve or regulate anybody except myself.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will have a program.  I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it.  I will save myself from two pests; hurry and indecision.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax.  During this half hour, some time, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

JUST FOR TODAY,   I will be unafraid.  Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.
